for Culture to
- revive interest in the long neglected or unknown Via Francigena through England, France, Switzerland and Italy.
- promote the educational and logistic aspects of the itinerary and study the Via Francigena in its cultural and historical aspects and traditions which are part of a European culture, both of the past and of the present.
- safeguard and revives this important part of our European cultural heritage, replacing art works in their original context thanks to temporary or permanent exhibitions.
- at the European level AIVF gave birth to the VF documentation centre, a permanent Scientific VF committee 2003, a program for safeguarding and reviving this important part of our historical-social landscape, sites and monuments heritage;
- AIVF has run a website since 1998 (first in 3, then in 5 languages).
for Tourism
- pushing the training of tourist guides specialized to promote the lesser known sites along the Via Francigena.
- At the European level, has promoted since 1998 the Via Francigena with: the European VF logo (2001, updated 2007), the Manuel of Rules for VF European signposting with the patronage of the Council of Europe and Latium Region.
- conferences, press articles and a network of free medieval museums and monuments for VF pilgrims.
for Pilgrims
- offers modern pilgrims a true experience of what was it like to be a pilgrim in the year 1000.
- provides members with an “AMI Card” and pilgrim passports that offer many advantages
- thanks to direct cooperation with many associations in England, France, Switzerland and Italy, has printed (included re-editions) 11 publications: Guides-Vademecum, Dormifrancigena (budget accommodations), Topofrancigena (a 2000 km historical-pedestrian route) and has produced 3 products for the pilgrims.
- in 2001, produced and offered the Testimonium and has organised, in collaboration with the Vatican City, the welcome and registering of VF pilgrims (800 by the end of 2007).
